Tanzania is a wonderful country to visit for a first trip to Africa
If you haven’t been to Africa before, but want to experience a bit of everything, then Tanzania is definitely a country to consider! Likewise if you have travelled to other countries in Africa but haven’t been to Tanzania yet then add it to your “TO GO” list!
The itinerary I created for the recent Tanzania girls trip was based on them experiencing three main things:
1) The absolute joy of an African safari
2) The honour of spending time in an authentic tribal village
3) Having fun on the incredible beaches in Zanzibar
This was not a Tanzanian photography tour. Instead I took all the photos of the animals on safari and throughout the Tanzanian girls tour and then the girls got to keep the photos I took for their memories. This meant they could fully immerse themselves in the experiences without trying to capture it too, but still having professional photographs from their unforgettable African tour!
TANZANIA SAFARI, TRIBES AND ZANZIBAR GIRLS TOUR VIDEO
The video below shows some highlights from the Tanzania girls trip! Massive thank you to the Aussie girls, Elle, Claire and Amanda who chose to travel with me on their first African tour! Watching the joy and happiness throughout their trip is what I love when people join me on African adventures.
Tanzania Wildlife Safaris
With famous safari locations in Tanzania like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, you will experience incredible and varied wildlife sightings each day. On my recent girls trip to Tanzania I watched as close encounters with elephants near our vehicles bought tears of joy and wonder to the girls’ eyes. Squeels of delight, laughter and such content and big smiles full of gratitude filled our safari vehicle every day. A Tanzanian wildlife safari promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Tanzania Tribes, traditions and cultures
THE MAASAI TRIBE LIVE IN TANZANIA AND KENYA
I always love to visit authentic villages and stay away from tourist stops as much as possible when it comes to connecting with people and learning about cultures. Instead of visiting the Maasai tribe in a village we met them along the roadside as well as at a Maasai market we went to.
THE DATOOGA TRIBE LIVE IN TANZANIA
The Datooga tribe village was the family village of our tour operator. The girls got to experience a wonderful, authentic Datooga tribe village. Learning about the Datooga tribes respectful culture, lifestyle and traditions will be an unforgettable experience for the girls.
This trip also supported and raised awareness of the inspirational local Hawega Foundation which is empowering Datooga girls and families. To read more about the Hawega Foundation, its connection to the Datooga tribe and how they are advocating for stopping FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) read my past blog post or CLICK HERE
Tanzania Beach holidays in Zanzibar
Zanzibar is a very short and inexpensive domestic flight from Arusha and it is the perfect island to relax after the excitement of your Tanzanian safari. Pristine white beaches with dreamy blue and turquoise warm water can be enjoyed both in the water or while drinking a cold drink at a beachfront bar, pool or beanbag.
The size of the island means that you can spend a few nights in one location and then move to another part of the island for further exploration and enjoyment. The food is delicious, the people so friendly and with a great variety of accommodations to suit any budget it is the best way to finish your Tanzanian adventure!
ENJOY THE BEACHES IN ZANZIBAR AS WELL AS HISTORICAL STONE TOWN
Make sure you book a guided walk around the historic streets of Stone Town and if you love a relaxing place to drink then get the free boat to the floating bar! We took the girls to the floating bar for some cocktails and lunch and they absolutely loved the unique experience! It brought back many wonderful memories for Mule and myself of the floating bar off Lamu Island in Kenya!
DREAMERS ISLAND, STONE TOWN, ZANZIBAR
The floating bar is in the centre of Stone Town and is called Dreamers Island. Dreamers Island is a restaurant and bar and there are also little rooms to stay if you’re unable to get home after! There is a free boat that comes to the shore to bring you to this floating bar which is floating in the Indian Ocean. More of a relaxed and hippy vibe, this bar is full of character and love.
TANZANIA HAS SO MUCH TO EXPERIENCE AND EXPLORE
TANZANITE IS A PRECIOUS STONE ONLY FOUND IN TANZANIA
Tanzanite is a rare precious stone which varies in colour from blue to violet. The Tanzanite Experience in Arusha is a great place to include on a city tour to provide a greater appreciation for this rare gemstone. The girls learnt how Tanzanite was believed by locals to have been created as well as the history of it coming to the world market.
ENJOY A CULTURAL COOKING CLASS
Buying the local ingredients at the local market and then learning how to cook traditional dishes is another great experience you can add to a Tanzania itinerary. It creates a greater understanding of how the locals shop and the different ways they prepare food. The girls did this on day 1 of their Tanzania tour and it’s a great activity between long flights and driving days on safari. A day outside and immersed in the local culture is a great introduction to Tanzania.
Tanzania has a great variety of experiences for an African tour. There is so much to see and explore!
